Douglas R. Barr

Doug was born in Upper Darby on July 11, 1927. His family lived there until his father, Harry R. Barr, bought a farm in 1935 on Strasburg Road just east of Marshallton. Doug Jr, his son, still lives on that farm today. After moving to Marshallton, Doug attended the Marshallton School and then West Chester Junior High School. In 1942 during World War II the family moved back to Upper Darby largely due to gas rationing so that Doug’s father would be closer to his office in Philadelphia. He graduated from Upper Darby High School and then went into the army for 2 years. While he was in the service, the family moved back to the farm on Strasburg Road. He then went to West Chester University and the University of Maryland. While attending the Marshallton United Methodist Church he met Marjorie. They got married on June 18, 1949 at the Church. Since then they have lived together on the farm on Lucky Hill Road for 72 years.
